Artist’s Bio

Paul, born in the US, spent twenty years of his life in Europe, primarily residing in Prague, Czech Republic.  He now lives, works and creates in Chicago.

His artistic journey began during a post-college visit to Florence, where his fascination quickly shifted from classical masterpieces to the city's dynamic and unique graffiti art scene. This experience was followed by years of painting and experimentation. Driven by his curiosity of how others wrestle with life led him to cinematography, ultimately culminating in the making of a full-length feature film screened at prominent European film festivals, including the Raindance London in UK, Flanders Gent in Belgium, and Forum Bratislava in Slovakia.

Upon his return to the United States, Paul launched into the world of architecture and design. This narrative shows the dynamic creative essence of Paul's life. The stillness of the pandemic drew him back to the canvas, where he found solace in painting again, allowing him to embrace a sense of control during the time of heightened unpredictability. Interestingly, his current artworks still echo the initial inspiration from the streets of Florence ... only now instilled with a deeper sense of perspective gained through the passage of time.
"The oneness of our love, pain, dreams, growth, loss, sabotage, secrets, anguish, grace, wisdom; it's  the tapestry of life that connects us all."

Technique

Paul, a self-taught process artist, revels in capturing the essence of the human experience through textural layers, unconventional materials, and color exploration.

He experiments with various mixtures and materials to create a substantive base. He abstains from using traditional painting tools and instead favors scraping, layering, and suffusing the canvas to reveal emerging textures and color palettes.

His technique leads to unexpected interactions on the canvas, his final artwork oscillating between expressions of childlike simplicity and dramatic intensity.
